Privacy Policy
How Demo Auto Group collects, uses, and protects your personal information.
Last updated: May 11, 2026
Demo Auto Group respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit demo.thecarguy.ca or interact with us in person, by phone, or online — and how we use, share, and protect that information.
We follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the federal privacy law that applies to private-sector organizations in Canada, and Ontario's applicable provincial privacy rules.
1. What We Collect
We collect personal information you provide directly to us, and a limited amount of technical information automatically when you visit our website.
Information you give us
- Name, phone number, and email address
- Mailing address, when needed for vehicle delivery, financing, or registration
- Vehicle interest — make, model, year, budget, trade-in details
- Financing application information — employment, income, credit consent (only when you choose to apply for financing)
- Communication preferences (text, email, phone)
- Any messages, photos, or documents you send us through forms, email, text, or chat
Information collected automatically
- Approximate location (city-level only, derived from your IP address)
- Browser type, device type, operating system, and screen size
- Pages you view on demo.thecarguy.ca, time spent, and how you arrived (referring website or search engine)
- Anonymous behavioural data through Google Analytics (see Section 4)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information to:
- Respond to your inquiries about vehicles, financing, trade-ins, and service
- Process financing applications with our lender partners
- Arrange test drives, vehicle delivery, paperwork, and post-sale follow-up
- Send appointment confirmations, vehicle availability updates, and service reminders
- Send marketing emails or text messages — only when you have given express consent under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). You can unsubscribe at any time
- Improve our website, inventory, and customer service through aggregate analytics
- Comply with our legal and regulatory obligations
3. Who We Share Your Information With
Demo Auto Group does not sell your personal information. We share it only when needed to deliver the service you asked for, or when required by law.
- Lender partners. If you apply for financing, we share your application with the lenders best suited to your situation. They handle your credit data under their own privacy policies.
- Service providers. We use trusted third-party services to run our website, email, text, payment processing, and analytics. They access only the minimum data needed to perform their function.
- Government and legal. We share information with provincial registration authorities when you purchase a vehicle, and with law enforcement when legally required.
- Business transfers. If Demo Auto Group is ever sold or merged, customer information may transfer to the new owner under the same privacy commitments.
4. Cookies and Analytics
demo.thecarguy.ca uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, remember your preferences, and measure how visitors use it.
Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use demo.thecarguy.ca. GA4 records aggregate, anonymous data such as page views, session length, device type, and approximate geographic region. IP addresses are anonymized by default in GA4 and we do not use Google Analytics to identify individual visitors. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on.
Essential cookies
Some cookies are required for the site to function — for example, keeping you logged in to an admin account, remembering form input you've entered, or preventing repeat form submissions. These cannot be disabled without breaking site features.
Visitor and email-engagement tracking
We set a first-party visitor_id cookie (2-year expiry) when you first visit the site. It lets us reconnect your later visits to the same browser so we can show relevant vehicle recommendations. The cookie holds a random ID only — no personal data — and is never shared with third parties.
Emails we send may include a small invisible tracking pixel and rewritten links that record opens and clicks in our own database. This helps us know which emails are useful and to follow up with you appropriately. We store the access time, browser type, and an anonymized IP address (the last digits are removed before saving, similar to how Google Analytics handles IPs). Your unsubscribe link is never rewritten and always goes directly to our unsubscribe page.
Managing cookies
You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Note that doing so may affect parts of the site that depend on them (forms, financing applications, saved inventory filters).
5. Email and Text Message Marketing (CASL)
When you submit a form, ask a question, or apply for financing, you give us implied consent to follow up about that specific request. We do not add you to a general marketing list unless you opt in.
All marketing emails include a clear unsubscribe link. All marketing text messages include an opt-out instruction (reply STOP). We honour unsubscribe requests immediately, in keeping with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation.
6. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes it was collected, or as required by law (for example, sales records and financing documents have retention periods set by tax, motor-vehicle, and lender regulations — typically seven years in Canada).
Inactive leads and casual inquiries are reviewed periodically and deleted when no longer needed.
7. How We Protect Your Information
We use reasonable physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect personal information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Customer data is stored on secured servers, transmitted over HTTPS, and accessible only to staff who need it to do their job.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever occurs that poses a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by PIPEDA.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — ask us what personal information we hold about you
- Correct — request we fix inaccurate or incomplete information
- Delete — ask us to delete information we no longer need to retain
- Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from marketing emails, opt out of texts, or revoke consent for ongoing communications at any time
- Complain — contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe we have not met our obligations
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 11. We respond to verified requests within 30 days.
9. Children
Demo Auto Group does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through demo.thecarguy.ca, please contact us so we can delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time as our business or applicable laws change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. For significant changes, we will provide notice on the homepage or by email (where applicable).
